Sweet Memories

During the holiday I helped my Mom get down little used serving dishes. One of them that was brought down during the dish shuffle was this domed candy dish. My Mom has never used this candy dish but it was my grandmother's (her mother-in-law). She asked if I wanted it, the answer but of course! She told me that my Dad bought it at a dime store for my Grandmother when he was young. I'm guess it was purchased in the mid to late 1940's.

This candy dish sat on my Grandmother's coffee table in the living room for as long as I can remember. She filled it with ribbon candy during the holidays. Not a kid's favorite candy but is sure was pretty to look at. Now it is filled with pink and white M & M's and was the starting point for my Valentine's Day display. I added another candy dish filled with hearts, a creamer with a dried rose, champagne flute and vintage pin.

I also added a hand holding a little love.

The creamer I have had for many years, I like the delicate detail at the top.

I love this candy or nut scoop.

The candy dish is etched and has patterned air bubbles in it, and interest touch. I was please I got a picture to turn out of the etching.

That lidded dome was tall and I'm sure hard for little hands to handle. The rim of the dish has several chips but it does not diminish it's beauty. Kind of like lines on someones face, they added character.

I hope you have few cherished chipped pieces at your house.

Oh Laura, I love this post. I love the memory that comes from this beautiful dish. I have a piece of Riviera(same make of Fiesta) that my grandmother purchased for her sister in law. My mom was close with her aunt and before she passed she gave it to my mom who gave it to me when I got married.

What a pretty Valentine vignette! Chips in pieces I love don't bother me in the least. They just add another piece of history to it.

Love the rhinestone buckle and the candy scoop!!

You always manage to bring forth wonderful images and memories. My aunt had a heavy cranberry glass covered candy dish on her coffee table. My cousins can still describe in detail their method for lifting the top off to get at the candy without making any noise. Love the little creamer guy!

You've created a pretty little vignette with the vintage glass. I love old glass items, they're all pretty and unique! and the chips do add patina, like our faces as we age! Good analogy!

Such lovely pieces of memories! To me, "chips" mean they were lovingly handled. My fave is the scoop and the 'hand' card holder.

It's wonderful to be surrounded by things that have family memories attached to them, isn't it? The brooches are so pretty.

What a beautiful post. I love all the pretty treasures in your vignette. The candy dish reminds me of one my grandmother always had on her coffee table, she filled hers with peanuts. Thanks so much for sharing this.

What a timely post. I was just thinking the other day how you don't see candy dishes around much these day and about how much I would love to find one that I like to bring back the tradtion. I remember my grandmother always had more than one candy dish in her living room.

Wonderful photos! The candy dish is so sweet (no pun there) and I love the little creamer. I have a plain white one like it --I wonder if yours also is a Hall's creamer--I don't usually see them decorated (I college Hall creamers). Your whole display is so cheery.
