Christmas Cottage Mantel

Sometimes decorating starts with one unexpected item and then builds from there. I saw this Cottage sign at a local store and loved it thinking I would hang it on the porch. But I never considered the porch is white and it looked lost against the house. Hum…..still love the sign, now what. After trying it in a couple of places I settled on the mantel. I don't use a lot of red inside the house but what the heck, it is the holidays a little red will be wonderful.

I love the fireplace screen, it was originally a bronzy color but I painted it to coordinate with the fireplace.

I only have one smallish box of holiday decorations at the cottage so I had to repurpose things I had on hand.  Birdcages (I'd hate to count how many I have of those), planters, fish floats (the green balls) and clocks.  The santas and red ribbon are from my holiday stash and I grabbed extra greens when we got the little tree for the porch.

How clever using fish floats--so pretty in green. The sign does look really nice at the center and all the clocks compliment it so nicely.
