Peacock Feathers for Fall

I've been having a hard time getting in to the swing of fall decorating. When my pink geraniums are still blooming it is hard to switch over to fall colors both inside and out of the house. But this weekend brought a blast of rain and cold weather lows in the 40's and highs in the mid 50's. When the temperature inside the house reads 58 degrees you know it is time to click the heat on and that fall has really arrived.

Fall oranges don't really work with my pale interior so I thought I'd try some peacock feathers in a vase that previously held white silver dollars. Then I added some white and green gourds in enhance the fall feeling.

This might not be the most traditional fall decorating idea but for me it is a chance to freshen things without using orange. But I think I could use a few more feathers to fill the vase out a little more. Do you have other colors you like to try for fall? I love to hear about it.

A special thank you to Nita at Mod Mix Monday our posts on Red, White and Blue Table and Garden Bench. Also a thank you to Jann at Share Your Cup Thursday for featuring our post on Before and After Bookcase. You can visit Nita and Jann by clicking on their party link below.

  2. It's a lovely arrangement. I like orange a lot, though this is an excellent way to add fall without going that route. (I also had a day this week when I couldn't take the chill any more so the heat went on for a few hours. It was heavenly.)

  3. Your feathers add new colours and textures that are perfect for early fall. I don't really like the oranges and rusts, either. There are lots of pretty browns in the feathers, as well as the blues and greens.

  4. The colors in the feathers are so pretty as autumn accents! I think we're having the same weather as you. We even had about an inch of snow Friday night!

  5. I love your idea of using peacock feathers for fall decorating! We used to have peacocks that roamed our neighborhood at our old house-I need to decorate with these just for the memories!

  6. I think it is stunning. Just enough to feel the fall in the air. I dont like to decorate too much for fall as I would rather put my efforts into Christmas decorating. It can be a lot of work! And I like the seasons to last a little longer making it worth while.

  7. The peacock feathers add an elegant touch and the colour of the gourds is subtle enough not to overpower like orange would. I find your autumn vignette very appealing as I'm not a fan of orange either.

  9. I am sure it is just an old wives tale... or possibly even something my Mother made up but she always told me it was bad luck to have them in the house. Don't ask me why as I think they are very beautiful.

  13. Looks great! I have a lot of color in my house but I too can find the "orange" factor a bit much. I just try to find things that are as natural looking as possible- even if they are faux! The peacock feathers are so dramatic- I like them anytime! Your gourds look great and add that little fall touch without going overboard!

  18. Reminds me of Samuel Barber's "A Hand of Bridge"....I want to buy that hat of peacock feathers!!! I'm assuming no peacocks were harmed in the decorating of this space. Beautiful!

  21. Thanks for visiting my Rachel Ashwell post! I was lucky enough to visit the NY shop before it closed. It was much the same, but quite large. Very nice fall decorating! I steer clear of orange for the most part too. I love the neutrals and browns though. Nice job!
