Get Your Irish On

In March many of us wish we could claim that we were just a little bit Irish. I know I do, but alas no Irish ancestry as far as I know. Well, that won't stop me from doing a little decorating for St Patrick's Day. I liberated my pink feather tree from it's silver beads and stars that I use during the holidays and added shamrocks and green beaded garland.

A pink and green tree, my favorite color combination.

The green seltzer bottle is etched, Abe Berg, Sparkling Beverages, New York, NY. I'm guessing Abe probably was not Irish either.

Green bears with coordinating green jewels.

My only St. Patty's Day vintage postcard, how is it I only have one? I'll have to be on the hunt for more.

Love birds….

We were fortunate to have taken a trip to Ireland several years ago. It truly was a magical place, lush, green, old ruins, good food and charming people. I'll be dreaming of my time there and hope to make a return trip one day soon. But until then I have to settle for the sparkly shamrocks!

Happy 2013

Hard to believe another year has arrived! We rang in the New Year up at the cottage by watching the "bridge drop" at midnight in our little town. The bridge is over the Pine river which links Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan. The bridge is raised and lowered to let big boats glide between the two lakes. We have seen this bridge go up and down a million times but it seemed special watching it go down at midnight. But I can't tell you how cold it was at 19 degrees and the wind whipping off the lakes. All I can say is burrrr…….

I could have used a little fur muff to keep me warm like this sweet little girl is wearing in this vintage postcard.

The holidays were nice, getting together with friends and family. My blogging partner daughter Andrea was home for an extended visit, truly the best gift of all. We relaxed but became obsessed by watching the first two seasons of the PBS show Downton Abby. Can't wait for the new season to begin, a wonderful show!!

In the next few days the tree and holiday decorations will come down. It is always a little sad when they come down but then we can begin the count down to spring and flowers…

Looking forward to the New Year!
